I Need A Time Machine

I'm so sorry! For the past two weeks I have neglected my blog and went on an unintentional hiatus :( I am really so busy that I did not even know I hit 4000+ reads! Thanks for that!

I'm sec 2 this year... It's my streaming year!

Now, I have loads of reasons (or you can think of them as excuses) and I guess I'll share them with you as I'm pretty sure many of you are coping with the same stress as I am.

Monday - Drama until 6.30pm reach home at 7.30+

Tuesday - rush home for tuition at 4.30pm until 6

Wednesday - Ballet at 5.30 reach home at 6.30+

Thursday - Drama Elective until 3.15pm

Friday - Drama until 6 and reach home at 7+
Saturday - Ballet at 11 and guitar at 2.30
Sunday - Family day and homework day :(

I take nearly an hour to reach home from my school. I usually take a nap in the bus because I'm exhausted :(

And guess what? I have to sleep at 9. 9.30pm the latest or else I'll be in a very bad mood the next day as I have to wake up at 5.25am.

I take an hour plus to finish my homework after dinner and bathing. And that leaves about half an hour or less for my family...

Now do you see the trouble I have trying to squeeze out time for blogging and doing my own things? I still have not watched the new episodes of Pretty Little Liars and it's my favourite TV show! I am currently writing this in the school library while my classmates are having D&T or Home Econs. Since I'm in DEP I don't have to take them yay :) But I keep getting distracted by YouTube...

Anyways, I decided that I will write a blog post on how to manage time better so that I can help not only myself but all those who have way too many things they need to do and too little time!

The first thing I learnt was to plan what to do with my time and follow closely to it. I actually planned to write all my blog posts during my bus rides but I just can't :( I need to rest and I will get slight motion sickness if I use my phone on moving vehicles. Maybe you can do something like what I did above? Trust me, it helps a lot. I stopped freaking out so much and can manage time better. Example, if my ballet is at 5.30, I have to eat and bathe by 4.45 and leave the house at 5. Planning also helps prioritise what is more important.

Second thing, believe it or not, talking it out. I complain about being busy and not having time to shop to my best friends in the Whatsapp group. I just feels better when I rant.

Another thing, don't procrastinate! All the undone work will just be left aside and slowly it will become a mountain and topple over you and you will DIE of exhaustion and stress.

Always have time to SLEEP. Teenagers need at least 8.5 hours of sleep a day and yeah nobody cares but it seriously makes a big difference. Sleeping at 9 makes me alert and energetic, sleeping at 10 makes me so cranky I feel like murdering everyone. (I'm kidding don't arrest me) It's quite hard to find time to go sleep early especially with all the homework due the next day but oh well, just try to sleep more and you'll feel ten times better! (Okay, I'm exaggerating but you know what I mean...) If you are a night owl who works better at night, take a long nap in the afternoon!

And most importantly, have something to look forward to so it can motivate yourself to do stuff instead of staring into space. Not only will it refresh your mind, it's good for your body, too. I can't wait for the March Holidays. I swear I'll have at least one day of fun with my friends to go shopping, talk, eat and just hang out! I'm already saving money for shopping haha :) It's important to relax. Check your Instagram, Twitter and Facebook but obviously don't focus only on that.

So that's it! The post is quite short and I apologise for that but we are all busy people and all have better things to do (Go do your homework!) and my free period is about to end and I'm going to have Chinese class soon :(

Self-Harming: Not A Joke

Everything I am going to write does not come from personal experience although I did feel like self-harming before. Some are from observations I made and others are research. I sincerely hope I do not offend anyone by writing this post and my sole purpose is to raise more awareness about this issue and not to promote or encourage self-harming in any way.

1 in 6 teens self-harm.

10% of 15-16 year old girls have self-harmed, usually by cutting.

Boys are fighting the battle too, not just girls.

Do you know how much hatred one must have for themselves to actually inflict harm onto their own bodies?

Self-harming isn't just cutting. That is the most popular form of self-harm but there are so many other ways like burning or scalding, scratching till you bleed, banging yourself on the head, poisoning, drugging and others.

For those who does not know why anyone would ever want to hurt themselves, the answer is simple, it helps them. It is their way of expressing. By causing pain, it releases the pain and tension they feel, it helps them feel in control, it distracts them from overwhelming emotions or difficult life circumstances and it relieves their guilt by punishing themselves and also it makes them feel alive, or simply feel something, instead of feeling numb or empty.

If it seems like self-harming helps them so much, why is it bad for them? Why must they seek help and why must they stop?

It is so much easier to begin than to quit and once you start, it is an addiction although it may start off simple like an impulse or something to do to feel more in control, soon it will feel like the cutting or self-harming is controlling you. It will then turn into a compulsive behavior that seems impossible to stop. It’s easy to cut too deep or end up with an infected wound. When hiding your scars and bruises, you will distance yourself from your friends and family and you'll end up lonely and miserable. Self-harming puts you at risk for even bigger problems than what you started out with. You may get major depression, drug and alcohol addiction, and even suicide. Yes, it is that serious. Would you rather resist a temptation or risk your life?

Most importantly, self-harm and cutting will not help you with the issues that made you want to hurt yourself in the first place. It will just make the situation worse.

Research shows that young people who self-harm most likely have low self-esteem, depression or anxiety. I personally believe part of the reason is because of bullies who clearly have nothing better to do with their lives and also families that neglect a person and make them feel unloved and worthless.

To the people that has ever made someone feel so rotten they feel the need to harm themselves, think about what you did. Your little jokes that you never thought much about made someone so so miserable. Will you truly be happy if they really decided to just end their life because you just won't leave them alone?

And to the people that think people self-harm for attention, what is wrong with you? Those who think it is a joke and you're doing it because you think it is in trend, it's not. It's an unhealthy addiction, it's like screaming and nobody can hear. It is an everyday battle. Every minute, no matter how happy someone may seem, you never know what may be behind that fake smile of theirs. For all you know, they may want to drag a blade across their wrist or thigh or their stomach.

However, there are of course idiots dumb enough to actually cut or pretend to just for the sake of cutting. PLEASE don't do that! It's not something you should show-off and if you are doing it right now, stop before it gets too serious and you get seriously hurt. Don't cut for fun, that's stupid.

Also, please don't avoid your friends if you find out they cut or self-harm, you should stand by them and support them. They are already having a hell of a time, don't make it worse.

A tip for you: Don't ask about the scars on someone's arms or wrists. Let them start afresh and new! If it is a scar and not wound, it means it is something that should be put behind and move on from :)

If you self-harm and is finding it extremely hard to stop, don't worry, there's many people like you and you're not the only one. You need to talk to someone that can help you and don't worry about being judged or anything because the fact that you want to ask for help and open up about your problems show that you are very very brave and you deserve a medal for that. Many people would never have dared to even think about seeking help.

It is understandable if you are afraid your parents find out and punish you for the rest of your life but what about talking to a counsellor or a nice teacher? My school counsellor helped me so much I can never fully repay her for all she did for me. If you tell her you don't want your parents to know, most likely, she will respect your decision unless things get too out of hand.

There are also many many things you can do to distract yourself whenever you feel like hurting yourself. Go read a book, listen to loud music, take a long nap, clean up your room, watch television, exercise, draw. Slowly, it will get better. I promise.

March 1st is National Self-Harm Awareness Day. Some people wear an orange awareness ribbon, write "LOVE" on their arms, draw a butterfly on their wrists in awareness of "the Butterfly Project" or wear a wristband or beaded bracelet to encourage awareness of self-harm.

We need break down the common stereotypes about self-harming. It's not a joke, it's serious and it's time everyone knows that.
