Fashion, Clothes And Shopping

This post was requested by an anon on ask.fm and I hope all the girls who want to be more fashionable can learn a few tips from me! I may not know everything but I have done some research :)

IN-TREND!

The trend right now are pullovers, cropped tops, bralets, rompers, tribal prints, raglan, paddle pop clothing, holographic items, snapbacks, skater skirts and high-waist shorts. (Wow that's a lot) Clothes and shoes that are tumblr and hipster-like. All these can be easily found in different parts of Singapore but how do you match them and where do you go for the cheapest and nicest?

Pullovers are great at keeping you warm when it is cold, not so great when you are in hot Singapore. But for the sake of fashion, some people don't mind wearing it despite the heat. I personally don't see a point in this but it's trendy and no denying, it is so cute! It matches well with low waist shorts, denim jeans and skater skirts as it can make your legs look longer. Wear minimal accessories and sneakers, vans or sandals and tie your hair into a messy bun to give off a very relaxed look.

Be careful, don't buy old-fashion pullovers!

Pullovers are usually quite expensive due to the design and material. Most of them can be found at Scape. Some can also be found in Bugis Street. Easiest way is to buy it from instagram blogshops. They are always selling these! Cost around $17-$25.

My personal favourite! Crop tops! Thin and comfortable material clothes are perfect for Singapore's weather. Most shops usually sell the short sleeves kind. I usually wear crop tops with colourful high waist shorts, jeans and skater skirts. Unless your intention is to show off some skin, do NOT wear it with low waist shorts. NEVER wear it with leggings. It will show off the ladies' private part. I advise you to wear it with a tank top or a tilt inside if you are shy. Wear bracelets and loose necklaces and match it with creepers or sneakers or boots. Tote bags and simple clutches go well with crop tops.

Be careful though, some of the neck band are way too big and may reveal your bra straps. Some crop tops are also shorter than others and may reveal a lot of belly or your bra when you raise your hands. Check before buying. You won't want to waste your money, will you?

The 3 level tall Bugis Street has a wide collection of very cheap short sleeves cropped tops. I spent about two and a half hours there walking around and round. Some of the clothes sold are quite repetitive so if you see something you like but you think it is a bit expensive, I advice you to walk around and check other shop's prices before buying. However, there are hardly any sleeveless crop tops until I was on the third level and I saw a tribal sleeveless crop top. When I saw it I grabbed it and immediately bought it. Happy me then walked to another shop and saw another similar crop top. The designs were more detailed and pretty and I immediately regretted my previous decision. Cotton on also has many short sleeves crop tops. Cineleisure has a lot of fashionable crop tops although it may be a bit expensive. Check out the shop called 'femmeX'. Crop tops usually cost $8-20.

Bralets, also called bustiers sharpens your breasts to give off a sexy image. I would not recommend teens below 16 to buy this as you would probably get disowned by your parents or attract the wrong kind of attention. There are padded and non-padded bralets. They go very well with plain high waist shorts and cute but plain skater skirts. Wear short necklaces and flashy bracelets and high heels (Stilettos, wedges, pumps) to give off a very feminine look. Carry a big fashionable bag or flat clutch.

Be careful to get the correct fitting size, too big bralets look more like small tanktops and too small bralets look like you are just wearing a bra. Be careful when you bend down too.

Very popular on instagram blogshops. Didn't see much of these in Bugis Street so I recommend Scape, Topshop, forever 21, H&M and probably some shops in Cinelesiure and Nex. Cost around $15-$30 depending on the type and design.

Rompers are cute, girly yet not too over-the-top! There are many kind of rompers, floral rompers are very in-trend right now. Go well with either messy bun or cute curly hair. Accessorize it with short plain necklaces, bright-coloured bracelets. Wear heels if you want to give it a girly look, sneakers or vans if you want a girl-next-door look. Rompers are usually bright and heavily patterned so your bag and accessories have to be plain. Small leather sling bags are oh-so-cute with this!

Be careful, the thigh opening may sometimes be too big and may reveal your underwear when sitting. When you sit and stand, check that the back of your romper is not crumpled. It is also very troublesome to go to the toilet as you need to unbutton your romper from the top.

Floral rompers are very popular on blogshops. Available at TopShop, forever 21. You can try your luck on the first and second level of Bugis Street too. It can be quite expensive and quite difficult to find. Prince ranging from $20 to very expensive (depending on material and brand).

Tribal prints are very popular. Aztec is also a similar design. Tribal prints can be found on muscle tanks, rompers, crop tops, bralets and some high waist shorts! When wearing any clothing with tribal print, make sure to match it with plain plain plain clothings. NEVER wear tribal with stripes or checkered or polka-dotted! They clash very badly and it can ruin your entire outfit!

Tribal prints are quite hard to find, there is no specific shop selling tribal items. There are phone covers with tribal prints widely available at Scape.

Raglan is very plain and can be both boyish or girly. When matched with shorts or jeans, it is too plain. Tie a denim or checkered outer wear at the waist and it gives off a chilled and cool look. This look match extremely well with high cut sneakers, boots and vans. NEVER wear heels with this. However, when it is matched with a leather skater dress or skirt, it becomes a school girl style. Long necklaces and a leather satchel or bag match very well with this. If you find it too plain, there are some tees with some words or design on it.

Be careful not to buy boy's raglan tee though, the cutting of the shirt will be different.

Can be found at Bugis Street. There is a set of black Raglan tee and skater dress which is very popular on instagram! Cost around $10-$18.

Paddle pop clothing look like the dress above. The colour is a mix of pastel colours and it is very bright and cute! There are pullovers, dresses, skater skirts and crop tops with this design. There are also covered shoes that look like vans with this design.

Saw some paddle pop jackets and pullovers at Bugis Street.

Holographic Items are slowly becoming in-trend. They match any plain outfit really well and are really stylish!

You can find some of these at H&M. I am not sure about other places so I would recommend Instagram Blogshops. They are quite expensive. From $35-$65.

Snapbacks. Everyone knows what this is. Everyone is wearing it and everyone is selling it. Matches well with T-Shirts, crop tops and basically anything. Make sure to keep the colour of the snapback in check, make sure they don't clash with your outfit. It is not advisable to wear snapbacks with rompers, bralets or dresses but it is actually okay. I wear a dress with snapbacks and sneakers to have a more boyish and casual look. Snapbacks does not stay on my head since I have a small head so I use two bobby pins to make sure it does not fall off. Tilt your snapback a bit.

Very very popular at Bugis Street. Especially the third level! Scape Underground and Scape sells a lot of snapbacks too! Cost $15-$25.

WHERE TO SHOP!

I love going to Bugis Street, Orchard (Scape, Cineleisure, 313), Vivocity (Cotton On, H&M, Forever 21, Fox, TopShop) to shop! Nex is okay, but I don't find the crops tops I want there so thumbs down and Jem is just like Orchard but with less options :( I wouldn't recommend Blogshops unless you really can't find what you want because there are scams, lost mails, it is troublesome, the size is never perfect because you can't try it on and the quality is not the best. Most importantly, blogshop items are super expensive! The blogshop owners have to earn money too, so they make the price higher. I saw a dress that costs $12 at Bugis Street but $17 online, a $10 crop top for $17 and many other more examples.
